Your eyewear prescription - How to read and fill it ?

Prescription lenses. Progressive far near vision

Unlike common believes, it is pretty simple to read the prescription from your doctor.

The basic information that we need to prepare your lenses are Sphere, Cylinder, Axis, Pupillary Distance and, for progressive lenses, Addition. These information are given for each eye that needs correction.

- Sphere (SPH): It corresponds to the value of myopia (minus sign) or hyperopia (plus sign).

- Cylinder (CYL): It is an important parameter allowing us to treat astigmatism.

- Axis (Ax): It is your astigmatism's orientation and it is given in degrees by your doctor.

- Pupilary Distance (PD): It is the distance between the centers of your pupils.
Usually you will have 2 numbers for Pupillary Distance, for example 30.5 and 30.5.
If you have only one number, please divide it by 2; for example 61 / 2 = 30.5.
If PD doesn't appear on your prescription you can ask your doctor or measure it by yourself following the simple below steps.

  1. Stand in front of a mirror.

  2. Hold a ruler against the bottom of your forehead, on top of your eyes.

  3. Close your left eye and align the ruler’s 0 with the center of your right pupil.

  4. Look straight and close your right eye then open your left eye.

  5. The mm line that lines up to the center of your left pupil is your Pupillary Distance.

Don't hesitate to ask a friend in order to help you and laugh.

- Addition (ADD): It is the value of your correction for near vision (presbyopia).

Now that you are an expert, don't hesitate to fill your prescription when browsing our collections using the following table that you will find when starting your order with us.
